Does June recommend this for other PMMs?

Hells yeah.

Why?

I suck at self-paced online learning. I didn’t suck at taking this self-paced course.

June why do you say you suck? You do plenty of self-paced, remote, online, non-traditional experiences. You can suck at something but still get it done. And, much like a recommended Netflix show, I’m either gonna get super obsessed with it – binge a bajillion hours over one weekend and then NEVER look at it again, or I’m gonna be interested just enough to get like halfway through then get distracted and realize 5 months later I never finished it. Neither strategy helps create philosophical change.

Continuing education has to be fun and feel natural. Plenty of my childhood was spent passively listening to my parents bicker (lovingly) about the failings of higher education. Both worked at the local university. Some evenings or weekends were spent “assisting” my mother in proofreading her dissertation about, “The impact of teaching presence in intensive online courses on perceived learning and sense of community: A mixed methods study.

I even worked for a few semesters in the Independent Learning office at Western Kentucky University – assisting other students who were taking self-paced courses. A constant reminder that I wasn’t alone in my struggle with self-paced learning.

But, as the company I was working for was acquiring more products and expanding into new countries – desperate for a product marketing focused team member – I knew I needed to absorb some new knowledge that was gonna stick.

I digress. Melinda Chung’s narration through the bootcamp course proves her warm personality and is a conversational approach to her curriculum. Each segment felt fresh, differentiated from the one before but consistent in the overarching goal of gaining a foundational understanding of PMM activities. With each module punctuated by guided practice and examples, this course proved much more valuable than trying to parse through random YouTube videos and blogs.
